History
Doran Routhe of the United Powers League of Earth organized a colonization project in order to further his own power. He loaded 40,000 prisoners on four supercarriers, sending them to the planet Gantris VI. However, the guidance computer in the lead ship, the Nagglfar, failed, and the four ships barreled blindly through warp space for twenty eight years. As their warp drives began to melt down, they emerged in a habitable star system.
Two supercarriers landed on Umoja; the Sarengo and the Reagan. The former crash-landed, killing all 8,000 of its passengers and leaving a huge scar called "the Sarengo Gulf". The Sarengo's memory banks had later been decrypted by the Umojan government, but too late to catch up to the colonists of Tarsonis.
Another supercarrier, the Argo, landed on Moria, and the Nagglfar landed on Tarsonis.
The colonists of Tarsonis had access to ATLAS, an artificial intelligence installed on the Nagglfar, which included valuable information on technology. This enabled Tarsonis to develop subwarp travel more quickly than the other two colonies. When the three reestablished contact, the Tarsonian government, which began to call itself the Terran Confederacy, attempted to convince the other two colonies to join in a conglomerate government, but Moria and Umoja refused. Eventually, rising tensions between Moria and the Terran Confederacy, both of which were trying to exploit mineral and Vespene resources on new colony world, led to The Guild War.
Rivals of the Confederacy
After the defeat of the Kel-Morian Combine by the Terran Confederacy, the Umojan government founded the Umojan Protectorate, a military body designed to defend the Umojans from the Confederates.
Due to fear of the Confederates (along with other factors) this world was an early supporter of the Sons of Korhal. With the creation of the Terran Dominion the Umojan government became a member; however, it seems to have received little interference from its allies.
The Umojans have rarely, if ever, been at war, and their planet has not yet been invaded by the any faction or race. The Umojan government seeks peaceful contact with the Protoss.
