The office of United States Ambassador (or Minister) to the United Kingdom (also known as Ambassador to the Court of St. James), has traditionally been the highest position in the American foreign service, and has been held by various notable politicians, including five future presidents (John Adams, James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Martin Van Buren, and James Buchanan).
