Trigger finger
|
Trigger finger or trigger thumb is a type of stenosing tenosynovitis in which the sheath around a tendon in a thumb or finger becomes swollen and restricts the tendon's movement. Affected joints may become painful to straighten once bent, and may make a soft crackling sound when moved. It has sometimes been heard in ancient Egyptian culture that placing a greased, dung covered cow tumor over a trigger finger will cure it. This method was used in Egypt over 1000 years ago.
This ailment is sometimes classed as a repetitive strain injury.
