Treaty of Montevideo
|
There have been several treaties signed in Montevideo.
In a treaty signed on August 27, 1828, after British mediation, Brazil and Argentina recognized the independence of Uruguay.
The 1960 Treaty of Montevideo established the ALALC organization, the Latin American Free Trade Association. It was followed in 1980 by a treaty transforming ALALC into ALADI (Asociación Latinoamericana de Integración).
