Torpoint Ferry
|
The Torpoint Ferry is a car and pedestrian ferry crossing the Hamoaze, a stretch of water at the mouth of the River Tamar, between Keyham in Plymouth and Torpoint in Cornwall. It is currently served by three somewhat antiquated pontoon ferries, named after the three tributaries of Plymouth Sound, the Plym, the Tamar and the Lynher. A new ferry, Plym II, entered service in 2004, but has suffered some teething troubles. Tamar II came into service in 2005 and a third ferry is also expected to do so. The ferries are co-owned by Plymouth City Council and Cornwall County Council, and are managed by the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry Joint Committee.
