Tonawanda, New York
|
The name Tonawanda as a location confuses even the people who live in other and even nearby Western New York communities.
- The City of Tonawanda is on the northern edge of Erie County, New York, across Tonawanda Creek from Niagara County.
- The Town of Tonawanda is also within Erie County and borders the Niagara River, Niagara County, and the City of Tonawanda.
- The City of North Tonawanda is in the southern part of Niagara County along the Niagara River.
- Tonawanda Island is part of the City of North Tonawanda.
Collectively, the three communities are called The Tonawandas, and the Tonawanda Creek, a tributary of the Niagara River, flows through this region. Further, "The Twin Cities" refers to North Tonawanda and [City of] Tonawanda.
Also, because the Village of Kenmore lies within the Town of Tonawanda, any association that involves both entities uses the name "Ken-Ton."
