Tommy Hilfiger (born March 24, 1951, Elmira, New York) is a world-famous fashion designer. Tommy Hilfiger is also the name of the brand he founded.
His initial foray into fashion was opening a store called "The People's Place". After the business went bankrupt, Hilfiger moved to New York in 1979 to pursue a career as a fashion designer. In 1984 he founded his eponymous company, introducing his signature menswear collection. Tommy Hilfiger was named Menswear Designer of the Year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 1995.
In 2005 a CBS reality show called The Cut tracked the progress of 16 contestants as they competed for a job with Tommy Hilfiger. The show has been compared to Donald Trump's The Apprentice.
He is married with four children. His daughter Ally Hifliger was featured in the reality series Rich Girls.
The company's corporate headquarters are located in Hong Kong.
