Tidewater region of Virginia

The Tidewater region of Virginia is a term which is no longer commonly used to refer to the southeastern portion of the Commonwealth of Virginia. This region is now generally referred to as Hampton Roads. (See also Virginia Peninsula and South Hampton Roads.)
It is generally considered to include:
- Accomack County
- Isle of Wight County
- James City County
- Northampton County
- Southampton County
- Surry County
- York County
and the independent cities of
- Chesapeake
- Franklin
- Hampton
- Newport News
- Norfolk
- Poquoson
- Portsmouth
- Suffolk
- Virginia Beach
- Williamsburg
Accomack and Northampton Counties are more commonly referred to as the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
