Theodorick Bland (congressman)

Theodorick Bland (21 March 1742 - 1 June 1790) was an American physician, soldier, and statesman from Virginia.
Bland was born in Virginia in 1742. He was sent to Great Britain for education and studied medicine at Edinburgh. He returned to the United States in 1759 to practice medicine. During the Revolutionary War, Bland was a cavalry officer, rising to the rank of colonel in the Continental Army. He represented Virginia in the Continental Congress from 1780 to 1783, served in the state legislature between 1786 and 1788 and was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1788. He served in the First United States Congress from 4 March 1789 until his death in 1790.
