The Woodlands School is a public high school in the Peel Board, located in Mississauga, Ontario. tee hee
The Woodlands School is Mississauga's centre for the high school portion of its Enhanced Learning Program. This is the name of Peel Region's gifted program, which has a 99th percentile cutoff. Enhanced students usually do not live within walking distance and thus are privileged to ride on the school's bus system. Unlike most public high schools in Ontario, Enhanced level courses are offered along with Ontario's standard Applied and Advanced level courses. Enhanced students enroll almost exclusively in the Enhanced level courses. Due to this, social life in the student population is generally split between the local students and the students in the Enhanced program who come from across Mississauga.
The student teams usually perform very well in national and international academic competitions such as the Euclid Math Contest and the ACM Programming Competition (High School). The Woodlands is also noted for its strong lacrosse and cricket teams. These teams have won several competitions at the national and provincial levels in the past few years.
John Hurst and Michael Walz, two senior students in the 2004/2005 year, brought many events to the public eye of the school community. These 'magical days' included National High-Five Day, No Pants Day, and National Hug Day -which the two legendary boys co-created. Harmeet Bhachu was a coconspirator of the pair, although he dropped out prematurely.
As of September 2003, the school has 1,392 students of which 250 are bus riders. Its superintendent is Hal Brooksie.
Opened in 1972, Woodlands was designed by Dunlop, Farrow, Aitken and built by Richard Richards Ltd.. The Peel Board does not have exact record of its construction costs.
