The Sure Thing is a 1985 romantic comedy directed by Rob Reiner and written by Stephen L. Bloom and Jonathan Roberts. It features John Cusack, Daphne Zuniga, Anthony Edwards, Tim Robbins, Viveca Linfors, Boyd Gaines, and Nicolette Sheridan.
The film starts with Walter 'Gib' Gibson going off to college in the Northeast, hoping to get laid constantly. In his English class, he sets his eye on Alison Bradbury, a very organized girl who takes an immediate disliking to his fun-loving attitude. Knowing he is unsuccessful with women there, his friend Lance invites him over to his California college fraternity house over Christmas break to meet a mysterious beauty who "loves sex". This string bikini-clad beauty is a sure thing, meaning "No questions asked, no strings attached, no guilt involved."
Gib evidently arranges a ride with two older students driving a California, only to find Alison in the car with him. Because of their constant bickering, they get kicked out of the car in the middle of nowhere. Still arguing, Alison hitches a ride from a shady driver, and Gib rescues her. Later, they discover that they have lost all their money and are stuck from getting closer to California. But Alison finds out she has a credit card and they make it to California, Gib pursues the Sure Thing, Alison reunites with her boyfriend Jason.
