- for an English translation of the play Menschenhass und Reue ( German: "Misanthropy and Repentance") by the 19th-century playwright August von Kotzebue
- for a novel by Albert Camus (see The Stranger (novel));
- for a videotaped science-fiction series (see The Stranger (video series))
- for an album by Billy Joel (see The Stranger (album)); and
- for an alternative weekly newspaper in Seattle, Washington (see The Stranger (newspaper))
It is also the name of a number of movies, including:
- the 1946 movie directed by Orson Welles (see The Stranger (1946 movie))
- the 1967 movie based on Camus's novel and directed by Luchino Visconti (see The Stranger (1967 movie))
- the 1974 movie starring Glenn Corbett, Sharon Acker, Lew Ayres and Cameron Mitchell, actually a pilot for a TV series
- the 1995 movie directed by Fritz Kiersch (see The Stranger (1995 movie))
It is also the name of the role the player takes in the fictionalization of the Myst games (see Stranger (Myst)).
The Stranger is also the name of a mysterious cosmic being who has appeared in numerous issues published by Marvel Comics.
