The Singing Detective (movie)
|
The Singing Detective was a 2003 film based on the BBC mini-series by the same name, a work by Dennis Potter. It starred Robert Downey Jr. and Mel Gibson.
The film is essentially faithful to the series, albeit for a few exceptions; in particular, it is set in the United States instead of England, and the musical numbers are 1950's pop songs instead of 1940's jazz standards. Other changes include: the protagonist's name (changed from "Philip Marlow" to "Dan Dark"), the excemption of some of the more detailed events of his childhood, and a more upbeat ending.
