fr:Le Retour de Jafar The Return of Jafar is a sequel to the movie Aladdin made by The Walt Disney Company in 1994. The movie was released direct-to-video, and serves as the origin of the Aladdin animated series. Another direct-to-video sequel, Aladdin and the King of Thieves, followed in 1996.
The first Disney direct-to-video animated feature release, it grossed US$228 million, the second highest of all time. It is currently available on DVD.
Plot synopsis
Jafar, the villain from the first movie, plans revenge on Aladdin, Jasmine, and the Sultan. As Jafar was transformed into a genie at the end of the first film, he is somewhat handicapped by the incompetence of his new "master", the browbeaten thief Abis Mal. Jafar wants to be wished free, and, while technically needing Mal to do this, the "master" proves to be more of a sidekick than anything else, as he knows Jafar could easily find a way to destroy him (as he proves early on, when Mal nearly gets eaten by a shark after making his first wish).
Jafar's former sidekick, the parrot Iago, betrays Jafar and becomes one of Aladdin's friends. Jafar manages to scare Iago back to his side, and with Iago's help, Jafar captures all of his enemies in preparation for his conquest of Agraba. However, Iago then helps Aladdin and his friends to escape from Jafar's clutches. In the end, Iago helps them to defeat Jafar by destroying his lamp with molten magma, thereby destroying Jafar. Iago and Abis Mal went on to appear as a hero and villain, respectively, on the Aladdin animated series.
