The Decline

"The Decline" is an EP by NOFX consisting of only the title track, an 18 minute punk song. Themes include railing against unthinking obedience and apathy, destruction of constitutional rights, and condemnation of the religious right. Although the lyrics are somewhat disjointed, they all refer back to the unifying theme of the Decline of America. NOFX often closes their shows with the last 4 minutes of the song, belting out the lines:
- "And so we go
- on with our lives
- We know the truth
- But prefer Lies
- Lies are simple
- Simple is Bliss
- Why go against tradition when we can
- Admit defeat?
- Live in Decline..."
before plunging into the equally memorable outro, featuring a unique horn riff that recurs throughout the song.
