The Carebears Demo Crew
|
The Swedish group The Carebears, usually abbreviated TCB, were one of the most successful and well known Atari ST demo crews of their time. Their biggest impact was the release of the Cuddly Demos which set the standard for the Atari demo scene for many years to come. Apart from the usual eye catching effects the main innovation was heavy use of a technique called "sync-scrolling" which enabled the ST to emulate hardware scrolling (a feature present in the ST's competitor the Commodore Amiga). Although used in several screens it was the Fullscreen demo that had most coders scratching their heads as it was calculated to be impossible to do.
The Carebears released many other demos that demonstrated a variety of skills including clever use of pre-generated sprites, digital music players and 3D work. However, the Cuddly Demos was to remain their only real mega-demo.
Like many other of the ST's greatest demo scene talents, Nick worked for Thalion Software and produced the game Enchanted Land which was released in 1990.
