Templar is a four-piece Canadian rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia.
The band was formed in 1998 by charismatic lead vocalist Murray Yates (currently frontman for Forty Foot Echo) who wrote the music and lyrics with co-production and writing by guitarist Will C. The band broke up in early 2001 as a result of disagreements among the group.
Templar had a loyal following of fans and were highly acclaimed in British Columbia having garnered extensive airplay on various local radio stations including CFOX.
Templar's songs are aggressive without being bombarding and Murray's vocals are distinct and melodic. Their intense, hard hitting and driving techno-groovy rock tracks are undeniable, and their emotional ballads will surely grab you.
The official first single, "Here We Go", was mixed by Ron "The Sainte" Germaine (Creed, Killing Joke, U2, Sonic Youth) and the video, directed by Noble Jones (Econoline Crush, IME, Damhnait Doyle, Choclair) was released in mid-July of 2001. A remix of "Here We Go" was featured on EA Sports' video game NHL 2001.
Other notable songs include "My Direction", which was another single released in Canada following the success of "Here We Go". "Long Way Down" was another great addition to the album, and an updated version of the song was featured on Forty Foot Echo's self-titled debut album. Templar also included a techno remake of Led Zepplin's "A Whole Lotta Love" as a hidden track on their debut CD "Under the Sun", which was released in 2001.
