Teléfonos de México (or "Telmex") Template:NYSE is the largest telephone operator in Mexico.
Telmex was, initially, a government owned company, but was later privatized during the government of Carlos Salinas de Gortari, and sold to a group of investors, headed by Carlos Slim.
They provide internet services through the brand Prodigy, an ISP, which is a joint-venture in Mexico of SBC and Telmex.
They want to expand their service to South America. Although they provide mobile service throught the their subsidiary America Móvil to Latin America.
The major owner of Telmex is Grupo CARSO owned by Carlos Slim.
