In the Star Wars Expanded Universe, a Telbun is a middle class human from the Kuat system. This person is chosen by one of the great merchant families to parent a child with a Kuati noble. The Kuati seen this as a way of avoiding inbreeding. The child only acknowledged the merchant house that hired the Kuati as family. The Telbun served as the child's caretaker. Because of the parental bond, the Telbun were very devoted to the child.
