Ted Waitt is the founder and chairman of Gateway Computers. Along with Mike Hammond, he co-founded the company on his family's farm in Iowa in 1985 with a $10,000 loan secured by his grandmother, eventually moving to Sergeant Bluff, Iowa and later to North Sioux City, South Dakota, where the company generated their "down-home" branding, complete with computer boxes that resembled cows.
Mr. Waitt moved to La Jolla, California where he resides currently with his family. In 2004, Waitt has turned-over day-to-day operations of Gateway Computers and title of CEO to Wayne Inouye. In May 2005, he resigned as chairman of the company, ending a near 20 year run with the company he co-founded.
