Engineer

An engineer is someone who practices the engineering profession; a professional practitioner of engineering; someone who uses scientific knowledge to solve practical problems and produce goods for society.
The word technologist is largely synonymous. It comes from the prefix Techno- and the suffix -ologist: Meaning someone who studies technology.
In railroad terminology, the word engineer also designates a person who operates a locomotive engine, an engine driver.
