Technical visualization is an important aspect of product development. Originally technical drawings were made by hand, but with the rise of advanced computer graphics the drawing board is gradually replaced by computer-aided design (CAD). CAD-drawings have several advantages over hand-made drawings such as the possibility of 3-D modeling, rapid prototyping and simulation.
Apart from the traditional technical drawings to show the shape, sizes and tolerances of construction parts, abstract visualization methods are also important. For example, the Unified Modeling Language can be used as a visualization aid during object-oriented software development.
