Talk:List of a cappella songs

Contents

The Bobs & The Nylons

As I start this list, I see that it's rather heavy with entries from The Bobs and The Nylons (not surprising, as they both specialize in a cappella music). Believe it or not, I'm not trying to list their entire repertoires. My philosophy was to add songs that are covers of very popular songs and/or my favorites of theirs. I invite other opinions on what should or shouldn't be in this list. -- Jeff Q 20:12, 31 May 2004 (UTC)

Christmas songs

As I sift through my music collection for a cappella songs, I notice that there are quite a few notable Christmas songs. I haven't added any yet. I'm wondering if they should have a separate section. I think not, at least for now. Opinions? -- Jeff Q 20:14, 31 May 2004 (UTC)

Okay, I just had to add The Roches' "Star of Wonder", one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I've ever heard. I guess the floodgates are open. ☺ -- Jeff Q 01:57, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Barbershop?

"My Wild Irish Rose," "Sweet Adeline," "Down Our Way," "Story of the Rose" (Heart of My Heart), etc. etc. ???? Dpbsmith 23:39, 31 May 2004 (UTC)

Seems to me that any song that is traditionally performed a cappella ought to be included. Perhaps you could just put "(traditional barbershop)" for the artist if none stands above all others. Barbershop might deserve a separate section, but I'd suggest keeping it simple for now and just adding each tune in its alphabetical place. -- Jeff Q 01:55, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC)
In fact, I just added a suggested formatting guideline for adding barbershop and contributed my own example, "Shenandoah". I'll let you add your ideas (especially since I'm not familiar with two of the titles). Thanks for pointing this out, Dpbsmith! -- Jeff Q 02:08, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Why stop there? How about all the music of Palestrina, Orlando di Lasso, Josquin des Pres and a million other composers? —Wahoofive (talk) 02:09, 5 May 2005 (UTC)

English folk songs

Hundreds of English folk songs are sung a cappella - for instance in the repertoires of Martin Carthy, Peter bellamy and Shirley Collins, and the entirely of the recorded works of The Copper Family. I would assume these should not be included in this listing however.
