Plural
The plurals in "adopting their patronyms as family names" were dropped. Does it mean all Tamils share one patronym or some sort of collective system? --Menchi 19:10, Aug 10, 2003 (UTC)
- Umm, no, I dropped it so that it is gramatically consistent with the rest of the sentence. -- Arvindn 04:08, 11 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- I've added another -s after "them...acquire surname". Does it sound grammatical now? Feel free to improve it further. --Menchi 04:12, Aug 11, 2003 (UTC)
Cast surnames
Could we have some example caste-derived surnames, and some subcaste-derived ones? It'd be helpful to also point out the differences between caste- and subcaste-derived surnames, if there's any. --Menchi 19:30, Aug 10, 2003 (UTC)
Hindu only?
I don't mean to offend, but this article covers only Hindu names, or caste-based family names--there are enough Muslims with Gandhi and Raja in their name to make this issue be not only about Hindus as a religious community. Or am I confused?—iFaqeer (Talk to me!) 00:17, Mar 19, 2005 (UTC)
PS
I don't believe it is only "a number" of Sikhs that are named "Singh"...I am tempted to put an {{attention}} notice on this article.—iFaqeer (Talk to me!) 00:17, Mar 19, 2005 (UTC)
