Talk:French Region

Any other names for this Region?

I have never heard of the two countries together being called "French region", and as most people don't realize that Monaco is a country of its own calling "one" country is region is a bit rediculous. Note that hyperdictionary (http://www.hyperdictionary.com/dictionary/French+region) defines "French region" as Regions of France, on of the subdivisions of France. But even if it is a valid geographic term, I doubt the current badly formatted partial repeation of contents from the France and Monaco article make it a valid article. andy

This is the first time ever that I've heard about a "French region" for France and Monaco, and I'm French. I suggest removing the page unless the author points to a valid source for his statement. David.Monniaux 08:53, 18 May 2004 (UTC)

Yes, French Region may not be the correct term for the region, but I've read in numerous sources before about France and Monaco, (sometimes Andorra and the Low COuntries) being a region--- does anyone know the name for it?

Never heard about such a thing. There exist something called "Benelux" uniting Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. David.Monniaux 07:44, 21 May 2004 (UTC)

Content of this article

I have removed (yes, I'm sorry) the content on this page describing France and Monaco. That information is in the countries' articles. I suggest that this article describe the past / present relationship between France and Monaco.

I don't know either if the term "French Region" is correct, but a page about the grouping (whatever it's called) is needed. See Europe#Regions in Europe. If someone comes up with a better title - move this page. Simple.

I have made my vote on VfD - I don't believe the page warrants deletion.

Unfortunately, I suspect that Europe#Regions in Europe is equal baloney. Show me any document outside Wikipedia talking about the "French region" - be it an official document or a press report. David.Monniaux 07:44, 21 May 2004 (UTC)
Please fix then- if you have a sensible alternative arrangement in mind! But the section on Regions on Europe needs fixed up, not got rid of! Zoney 10:48, 21 May 2004 (UTC)
The issue is that there is no official concept of "European regions" (at least not those cited - you may argue that the immediate sub-national entities of EU countries constitute EU regions) nor is there any clear geographical concept of European regions uniting several countries (except for agreements like Benelux). So I'd get rid of the section, because there's nothing real to write about. David.Monniaux 11:09, 21 May 2004 (UTC)
Here is a link to a website on the French Region- although I don't agree with all of it. It's a bad setup as well. http://www.geocities.com/nykid9090/the_french_region.html
I'm sorry, but anybody can write up a web site about some concept they invented. However, an encyclopedia should restrict itself to concepts that have had some recognition in the general or specialized public. David.Monniaux 07:39, 21 May 2004 (UTC)
