Takashima, Shiga

ja:高島市 Takashima (高島市; -shi) is a city located in Shiga, Japan.
As of Nov. 30, 2004, the city has an estimated population of 56,220 and the density of 110 persons per km². The total area is 511 km².
The city was founded on Jan. 1, 2005 upon the merging of Adogawa, Imazu, Kutsuki (village), Makino, Shinasahi, and Takashima towns.
Before Takashima city was founded, Takashima (高島町; -cho) was a town located in the former Takashima District, Shiga, Japan.
In 2003, the town had an estimated population of 7,121 and a density of 112.67 persons per km². The total area was 63.20 km².
The town was dissolved upon the formation of a new city on Jan. 1, 2005 called Takashima with the merging of Adogawa, Imazu, Kutsuki (village), Makino, Shinasahi, and Takashima towns.
