Taiidan

The Taiidan are the antagonist faction in the original Homeworld game and are the opponents to the Kushan exiles, returning from their banishment. They are one of the more popular races in the game and are in fact divided themselves in to two distinct factions.
The Taiidan Empire was founded several thousand years ago and after their homeworld was destroyed by the Hiigarans (otherwise known as the Kushan), they went into a frenzy and destroyed the Kushan Empire, exiling its inhabitants to the Outer Rim of the galaxy.
However, over time the Taiidan have become very corrupt and their own Emperor is a clone of their last and is over four hundred years old. When they discover that the Kushan are returning to take back their home, they unleash their fleets and destroy the planet Kharak, thinking that their job is done.
This act of genocide inflamed an already present rebellion and one of the key figures, Captain Elson of the destroyer Kapella joined forces with the Kushan and helped them reach their home. After the final battle in orbit of Hiigara the Empire collapsed and was replaced by the Taiidan Republic though Imperialist fragments remained and later joined the Vaygr warlord Makaan.
There are rumors that the Taiidan was the race intended to be played through the singleplayer campaign.
