Sudbury Regional Hospital
|
Sudbury Regional Hospital is a hospital located in the city of Greater Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.
The hospital was created in the 1990s by the government of Mike Harris, as part of the provincial program of health care restructuring. The city formerly had four hospitals: Sudbury General, Sudbury Memorial, Sudbury Algoma and Laurentian. The four hospitals were amalgamated into the single Sudbury Regional Hospital, at the former Laurentian Hospital site.
Significant construction was scheduled to expand the Laurentian site to accommodate all of the amalgamated hospital's services. However, the amalgamation has been highly controversial, with the construction costs significantly exceeding the amount budgeted by the province, and is not yet complete as of 2005.
