A wooden Stile.
A stile is a set of steps for crossing over a fence or wall. They are generally found in rural areas and allow people to enter and leave fields but restrain animals . Most are made of wood. In the UK many stiles were built under legal compulsion, and for that reason a wide variety of designs exist, some calculated to be difficult to use. A museum of stiles displays some of these styles.
One problem with stiles is that they are not easy to cross by people with disabilities.
In woodworking, a stile is a vertical member on a frame in frame and panel construction.
