Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador
|
Stephenville is a town on the west coast of Newfoundland. Stephenville is home to the former Ernest Harmon Air Force Base, operated by the United States military from 1941 to 1966. When the Americans pulled out, they left Stephenville with a 10,000+ foot runway and many buildings, not to mention much toxic waste.
On September 11 2001, 38 aircraft made emergency landings at Stephenville and the town managed to host the stranded passengers for a week.
Currently, it is a home for around 8000 - 9000 inhabitants. It shares a municipal border with Kippens.
