Visionaire
|
"Visionaire - the adventure-creation-system" is a software package to create own graphical adventure games, similar in style to classic games like Monkey-Island.
The program is in first place for fans of the genre who want to create their own games but don't have much experience with a programming language. Those games are also called fan-adventures.
Visionaire is a universal engine and should allow for many different kinds of adventures to be created. This applies particularly for the interface and the design of the story and events in the game.
There is no full scripting programming language but a fixed catalog of combinable "actions" thereby offering flexibility without demanding programming skills from the user.
Other engines are heavily based on scripts or do, like AGS, offer an integrated developing environment+script language. In this regard AGS offers more possibilites than Visionaire through customized (but potentially very complex) scripts.

Similar programs
Many programming teams offer tools for fast and easy creation of graphical adventure games. With most of them you can create a game similar in style to a specific example like one of the classical Lucasarts or Sierra-games. Some of them are universal engines or support a script language allowing for games with different interfaces and special effects.
