Road crew
|
The road crew (or roadies) are the technicians who travel on tour with musicians who handle every part of the production except actually playing the music. This catch-all term covers Tour and Production Managers (http://www.roadcrewstouring.com/profiles/tourManagers.html), Stage Managers (http://www.roadiejobs.com/profiles/stageManagers.html), Front Of House Engineers (http://www.roadiejobs.com/profiles/FOH.html), Monitor Engineers (http://www.roadiejobs.com/profiles/monitorTechs.html), Guitar Techs (http://www.roadiejobs.com/profiles/guitarTechs.html), Bass Techs (http://www.roadiejobs.com/profiles/bassTechs.html), Drum Techs (http://www.roadiejobs.com/profiles/drumTechs.html), Keyboard Techs (http://www.roadiejobs.com/profiles/keyboardTechs.html), Security/Bodygaurds (http://www.roadcrewstouring.com/profiles/securities.html), Lighting Techs (http://www.roadiejobs.com/profiles/lighting.html), and pyrotechnics technicians, among others.
The road crew are generally uncredited, though many metal bands take care to thank their crew in album sleeve notes; Pantera even go so far as to feature their crew in their tour videos, and Motörhead wrote the song "We Are The Road Crew" about theirs. Jackson Browne wrote his famous song "The Load-Out" (usually heard in a live version hybrid with a cover of the Frankie Valli tune "Stay") in order to honor his roadies.
(There is also a movie called Roadie (1980), starring Meatloaf and Kaki Hunter).
