Snakebot
|
A snakebot is a type of biomorphic hyper-redundant robot that resembles a snake. Snakebots are ideally suited for automated pipe inspection, and search and rescue due to their thin bodies and flexibility. Another advantage of snakebots is their redundancy which allows them to still function after losing mobility in one or more sections.
Snakebots are currently being researched as a new type of robotic, interplanetary probe by engineers at NASA's Ames Research Center.
Snake robots are also being developed for Search and Rescue purposes at Carnegie Mellon University's Biorobotics Lab.
