Slaad

In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the slaad (sometimes pluralized as slaadi) are a fictional race of chaotic neutral creatures native to the Outer Plane of Limbo. Slaadi resemble giant humanoid frogs of various colors.

Slaadi have a rigid social caste based on the color of a slaad's scales. From the bottom of the hierarchy to the top, there are Red Slaadi, Blue Slaadi, Green Slaadi, Grey Slaadi, and the mighty Death Slaadi. Slaadi reproduce asexually. Their claw attacks implant their eggs into hosts, which either hatch inside the host's body or transform the host completely into a newborn slaad. Red Slaadi eggs produce Blue Slaadi, and vice versa. If either a Red Slaad or Blue Slaad infects an arcane spellcaster, the host will spawn a Green Slaad, superior to its parent in that it may cast spells. A Green Slaad, upon reaching its hundredth year of life, will transform into a Grey Slaad over the course of a year. Some Grey Slaadi undergo a mysterious ritual, which transforms them into Death Slaadi. Death Slaadi possess amazing magical and physical might. Death Slaadi tend more towards an evil alignment than do most other Slaadi.

No two slaad are the same; their inherent chaos gives them all unique traits. There was once a time when Slaadi of different colors were common, each more fantastic and powerful than the last. However, two of the most powerful Slaadi sealed the Spawning Stone, which keeps the Slaadi within the aforementioned groups; although anomalies do slip through on a regular basis, they occur with less variety).
