Skyhook can refer to any of the following:
- A device used in a practical joke to lift a large/heavy object. The skyhook is attached to the air and the object. This has been used by tradesmen for several hundred years. Persons who have been fooled in this way have invented actual things they call skyhooks. See also pail of grinder sparks / snipe hunt.
- A hypothetical structure used for transporting material to and from a planet's surface into orbit.
- A climbing device in technical climbing.
- A semi-open binding used in skateboarding and related sports.
- In the philosopher Daniel Dennett's book, Darwin's Dangerous Idea, a skyhook is a materially unsupported (and thus implausible) entity or process.
- A sky hook, a basketball shot popularized by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
- A retrieval method to be used by an aircraft or a balloon.
- A fictitious transportation mechanism for the Great Glass Elevator in Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.
- An unmanned balloon named Skyhook was launched by the United States Navy in 1957 to take pictures of the sun, and used in a number of other projects
