Siemreap, Cambodia, is a city and province near the Tonle Sap lake and is the closest city to Angkor of the ancient Khmer empire.
Siem Reap has expanded greatly over the last few years. From just a few hotels the city has expanded to dozens of guesthouses, bars and even a convenience market. The city center has a garden with the King's residence. Most of the guesthouses and the market is to the south of the city center. Angkor itself is to the north of city.
On June 16, 2005, Siemreap was the location of a siege at a school in which one child was killed.
