SidStation
|
The SidStation is a musical synthesizer, built around the MOS Technology SID mixed-mode synthesizer chip originally used in the Commodore 64 home computer. It is produced by the Swedish synthesizer company Elektron, and was introduced in 1999. As the SID had not been manufactured for years, Elektron allegedly bought up nearly all remaining stock. The company has announced it will build the SidStation as long as their supplies last, but will scale the price in relation to the chip's rarity. Actually, Elektron ran out of their initial supply of SIDs in 2003 and discontinued the SidStation, but offered it again it in March 2005 when 100 additional chips became available.
