Sibawayh(i)
|
Sibawayh(i)'s full name is Amr ibn Uthman ibn Qanbar but most people call him by his epithet Sibawayhi. His name has been variously spelt. Owens (1988) and Al-Nassir (1993)always spells it Sibawayh but Carter (2004) spells it Sibawayhi (hence the parenthesised i)
Short biography
Sibawayh was born in a small town called Bayda (though some say it was Ahwaz) in Southern Persia.
