Shmoo Group
|
The Shmoo Group was founded by Bruce Potter in the late 1990s as a non-profit security think-tank. Contrary to popular belief, the group is not named after the Shmoo creature of the Li'l Abner cartoon. Rather it is taken from the nickname of one of the group's charter members. It consists of industry notables such as cryptographic protocol expert Rodney Thayer, anonymity guru Len Sassaman, PGP Corporation CTO Jon Callas, credited The Lord of the Rings system administrator Adam Shand, OpenSSL and Apache HTTP Server contributor Ben Laurie, Snax of Airsnort, Brian Caswell of Snort, as well as a number of other authors of security textbooks.
The full membership list is available from the members section of their web site.
