Shimaki Kensaku

Shimaki Kensaku (島木 健作, September 7,1903 - August 17,1945) is a Japanese author.
Shimaki suffered from tuberculosis, a disease which eventually killed him. In his youth, he was an active communist, but was arrested for his activities in the nationwide roundup of communists in 1928. He was more or less forced to renounce his communist beliefs in order to be released. The often forced renounciation of Communism by many Japanese authors in this period is known as "Tenkō".
