Shanwick Oceanic Control
|
Shanwick is an air traffic control center, which looks after all air traffic flying on the European side of the North Atlantic sector.
It is based in two locations, at Shannon Airport, County Clare (near Limerick), in the Republic of Ireland, and at Prestwick on the Ayrshire coast of Scotland - hence the name "Shan-wick".
In 2003, the NATS of the United Kingdom announced that is was investing £300m to build a new centre at Prestwick - which already looks after 70% of domestic U.K air traffic movements.
