Selous Scouts
|
The Selous Scouts were a paramilitary unit, functionally equivalent to the SAS, funded by Ian Smith's regime in Rhodesia. They were involved in guerilla warfare fighting against the forces of Robert Mugabe and Joshua Nkomo in order to preserve the status quo in that country at the time, after Smith's Declaration of Independence from the British in 1965. It differed from other Special Forces in that it recruited from enemy forces. Captured guerillas were offered a choice between prison, a trial and possible execution or joining the Selous Scouts.
