Template:Infobox Software Scribus is a desktop publishing (DTP) application for Linux and Unix desktop users. Example uses include club newsletters, small newspaper production and animated interactive PDF presentations. Other uses include creating corporate stationery, brochures, small posters, and other documents which require flexible layout and/or the ability to output to professional quality image-setting equipment. Scribus has even been used to produce full scale books.
Scribus is similar to Adobe PageMaker, QuarkXPress or Adobe InDesign, except that it is free software published under the GNU GPL.
Scribus supports many major graphic formats in addition to SVG. Other features include support of CMYK colors, ICC color management and scripting using Python. Scribus is available in more than 24 languages.
Printing is done via its own internal level 3 PostScript driver, including support for font embedding and sub-setting with TrueType, Type 1 and OpenType fonts. The internal driver fully supports Level 2 PostScript constructs and very large set of Level 3.
PDF support includes transparency, encryption and a large set of the PDF 1.4 spec including interactive PDF's form fields, annotations and bookmarks.
The file format is based on XML and is fully documented.
