Scarp, Scotland
|
Scarp is an island in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, west of Hushinish on Harris. The island, which has not been permanently inhabited since 1970, is over 300 metres high.
While a shallow ford links the island to Harris, it is often impassable due to strong currents. For this reason, the island has a place in history of the Royal Mail. In 1934, the island was the site of an experiment by German inventor Gerhard Zucker to deliver the island's mail by rocket, but it was a failure.
