The word sandwich when used alone, has several possible meanings in the English language:

- A layered material consisting of one or more types of filling between two sheets of outer lining. Most often applies to building materials, clothing or composite armour.

Sandwich is also a part of the names of:
- The earls of Sandwich, including John Montagu, the fourth earl and the alleged inventor in 1762 of the sandwich.
- The Hawaiian Islands were, for a short time, known to Western geographers as the Sandwich Islands.(See Captain James Cook).
