Sandra Magnus

Sandra Hall Magnus (born 30 October 1964) is an American astronaut and veteran of a single space mission.
Magnus was born and raised in Belleville, Illinois and earned degrees in physics and electrical engineering from the University of Missouri - Rolla before earning a doctorate in materials science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1996. During the 1980s, she worked on stealth aircraft design as an engineer for McDonnell Douglas. She was selected as an astronaut candidate in 1996 and flew her first space mission, STS-112, in October 2002 as a mission specialist.
