Salthi light fighter
|
The (fictional) Salthi light fighter from Wing Commander was the first of the Kilrathi Empire's many unsuccessful attempts to construct an adequate light fighter. The Salthi was small and fast - and thus difficult to hit from medium to long ranges - but unfortunately its ducts and thrusters were arranged such that it broke faster to port than to starboard, and this known tendency made it more predictable to Confederation fighter pilots than its light-fighter design normally would have been. Despite this, several Kilrathi aces such as Bhurak Starkiller achieved notoriety in the craft.
The Salthi was in service from the late 2630s until the end of the war. Large numbers were produced, and surplus Salthis were sold to renegade factions within the Confederation, most notably the Retros. The Salthi spaceframe was used as a basis for the heavier Shok'lar medium stealth fighter, as well as the Hrakti dedicated scout.
The Salthi is designated KF-227 in movie-related literature.
