Saarlouis

Saarlouis is a city in the Saarland, Germany, capital of the district Saarlouis. As of 2003 the city had a population of 38,420. The city is located at the river Saar.
1936 till 1945 the city was officially renamed to Saarlautern, as the Nazi government tried to germanize the city name. The louis in the city name refers to the French king Louis XIV., who in 1680 started to built the fortified city for boundary protection.
