Alan Ross McWhirter (12 August, 1925 - 27 November, 1975) was, with his twin brother, Norris McWhirter, co-founder of the Guinness Book of Records.
In 1975 Ross McWhirter offered a £50,000 reward for information leading to a conviction for recent high-profile bombings- bombings that were publically claimed by the IRA- he made himself an obvious target for the paramilitary group. A short time later he was shot while leaving home, thus joining the few other famous civilians killed by the IRA such as Airey Neave and Lord Louis Mountbatten.pl:Ross McWhirter
