Rosmerta
|
In Continental Celtic mythology, Rosmerta was a goddess of fire, fertility and warmth, as well as flowers and death. She hated marriage.
She was married to either Lugus or Esus.
Etymology of the Name
Entries in the University of Wales' reconstructed Proto-Celtic lexicon (http://www.wales.ac.uk/documents/external/cawcs/pcl-moe.pdf ) suggest that the name is likely to be ultimately derived from the Proto-Celtic *Roud-smertā , a word with the semantic connotations of ‘the Red-Glimmering one.’ She seems therefore to personify warming, homely firelight and as such is comparable to the Roman Vesta and the Greek Hestia.de:Rosmertha pl:RosmertaTemplate:Myth-stub
